The Work "Something About Nothing" shows Photographic frames. It started as a book project for the Seminar "foto.mode.buch" by Jenna Gesse at FH Bielefeld. MEHR TEXT!

After a visit to a flea market in the district of Stade, Jan Borreck bought over 40 picture frames right there. His attention was first drawn to the family portraits still slumbering in them. Aroused by many questions, the thought arose: „How can we do fair justice to these picture frames and their contents?“

„Frames protect pictures and separate artworks from their surroundings - but they also mediate between inside and outside. It is not only in museums that we are surrounded by frames; buildings and gardens also represent framed places. And even screens are framed images.“

By physically demolishing their original lingering place through a de-cluttering process, Jan Borreck creates a forensic search for clues by looking at the frames in different ways and recording individual details like forensics. The picture frames become designations in objects through numbers and letters that could be necessary for standardised further processing. A distance from the contents of the frame is necessary in order to be able to grasp the material itself.

His work has resulted in a catalogue that is now being exhibited in a room with different methods.
