Jan Borreck (*1985) is a student of photography at the FH Bielefeld. He engages with the materiality of photography and the processing of the image-bearing medium itself. Also interrogations exploring the message and meaning of photographic projects and their transportation or presentation are central to his works. After searching meticulously for long forgotten photographs or their sorted out picture frames in flea market halls, he integrates the thrifted finds as artistic substance into his practice.
Furthermore he places questions concerning the remains of the commemorative value of the found objects.
In the course of other artistic projects, he deals with biographic topics, which are central to his long-term self portrait series. While doing so, he depicts perspectives on the perception of the body and places themes like bodily changes caused by progressive hairloss (alopecia areata).
